Ian McFadzean studied Pharmacy at the University of Strathclyde before gaining a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Ray Hill and Graeme Henderson. He was awarded a Beit Memorial Research Fellowship in 1986 to work with David Brown at UCL, prior to being appointed to a lectureship in pharmacology at King’s College London in 1990. His research focusses on the pharmacological regulation of ion channels, notably calcium channels in neurones and smooth muscle. He is an enthusiastic teacher and lectures on a wide range of pharmacological topics to anyone who will listen!At King’s he has held a number of key positions, most recently Interim Vice President and Vice Principal Education, and Dean of Bioscience Education within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. From 2012-1216 he was Vice President (Academic Development) of the British Pharmacological Society.
